Launched on May 2, 2000, this anti-litter campaign
encourages people to take pride in their City because
" There's only one bug Mother Nature Doesn't like!"
Introducing L.B. the Litter Bug...

L.B. the litterbug is a nice bug, but
he is a bit lazy. He thinks someone else will pick up the litter he throws on
the ground. He does not care when getting rid of gum, cigarette butts or an
empty container. There is a little bit of L.B in a lot of people.
Objective
This campaign is designed to make people more aware
of how wrong it is to litter and if they did not litter the city would
be a cleaner, more beautiful one.
Getting the message out
involved a painted Metrobus, bus shelter ads, bus back ads, and of
course, the birth of L.B. the Litter Bug. This 7 foot high mascot
makes quite an impression at events and is certainly a useful tool to
spread the anti-litter message.
Phase II of this campaign ,
scheduled for 2001-2002 is a schools program, where L.B. visits every
school in St. John's. Students will have a chance to try and change
his dirty habits. Phase III has L.B. becoming an Anti-Litter Bug.
Funding
for Phase I & Phase II of this project was made possible by the
Multi-Materials Stewardship Board's Waste Management Trust Fund.
